The a11y in just about every visual builder for WordPress, Gutenberg block set, etc. is severely lacking.
For Breakdance 1.2 we are going to do a complete accessibility audit on every single one of our components and improve accessibility - i.e. focus states, keyboard nav, aria, skip links, etc. etc. etc.
Regardless of whether this gets upvoted or whether only 2% of users actually care, we are doing this.

Hi Louis,
The relatively new Accessibility Directive (EU) 2019/882 and the German BFSG, which will come into effect on June 28, 2025, require companies and website owners to comply with high accessibility standards such as EN 301 549 v3.2.1 and WCAG 2.1 with a minimum level of AA.
It would be nice if you could extend Breakedance's A11y standards until then. There is a comparison list of most WordPress builders where Breakdance is still in the middle:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DpbYamKHX_AV6sDdKE21bZykvhLrQw2NRX30voIagjA/edit?gid=0#gid=0
I have tried some of the WCAG 2.1 AA rules that are still in the red myself. Some can be implemented with a lot of effort, others like em font sizes in icon modules, the sliders/lightbox or title tags in slider buttons aren't.
It would be great if we could get the first builder plugin that supports WCAG 2.1 AA or AAA 100%, maybe even easy to use. There's a chance that a lot of Divi users will switch to Breakdance, since they don't plan any A11y improvements even with the upcoming Divi 5.

That's great and very important for EU agencies. But I think the aria labels are missing in: form builder - form - fields like explained here: https://www.w3schools.com/accessibility/accessibility_labels.php

Hi Louis, is there a list somewhere of all these accessibility features that I can pass on to my accessibility consultant? It would be good to get US accessibility experts such as Dr Belo Cipriani, who currently uses Divi for his website, on board, perhaps by doing a BD vs Divi accessibility comparison chart.

We just shipped Breakdance 1.3 with the promised A11Y improvements and more, including: enhancements for menu builder keyboard nav, FAQ, search forms, forms in general, ability to set attributes like aria-label on links/buttons that are part of other elements, and much more.
We're not aware of other open A11Y issues in Breakdance at the present time, but if you are, please tell us! Open a specific issue about it and we'll get it done.
Thanks all for voting on this!

Much needed. We can't rank more in Google PageSpeed witout more accesibility options from the builder.

When can we expect this to see in effect. As I am planning to use breakdance for creating a fully accessible website soon for one of my client.

Cool, accessibility will become a standard practice for all web apps very soon. Already all the European Union-related programs demand it

Really looking forward to this!

Really hope this is included in 1.2 as promised 🙏🏻
